It was 40 years ago today

It’s the end of the week – it’s the end of the month so the normal panic that happens every Friday has been taken up a notch to quote that cook.

I’m told somewhere that today is the 40th anniversary of the release of St. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band Album by the Beatles. Interesting.

While easily the most famous album in the history of rock – it isn’t really the Beatles best – (My vote Revolver), it sounds amazing to this day but really there are a few clunkers in the mix here – fixing a hole (Paul at his most twaddle brained). Within you without you (while I love George Harrison) this song is kinda dull and sounds longer than it is (pretty neat trick there you must admit) – and Rita and Getting Better and Good Morning they just don’t quite work you know – yes they fit in the overall concept but they aren’t the level of song we expect from the Beatles – yeah that’s a high standard but well we do. The best are the opening and A Day in the Life which can still sting.

I notice and lord you can’t help noticing column inch after column inch and talking head after talking head all jabbering about the decline in moral values. Who ever is doing the commentating usually goes on to link said decline to something they don’t like – gay marriage, gays themselves, some kind of feminism, liberals what have you. Still looking at the news one sees that they are changing the rules at universities so that officials administrating student loans can’t take money or gifts from companies that supply student loans.

Now excuse me but a) isn’t that just common sense and b) it had to be pretty bad for there to be a change in the regulations – were all these guys wearing Hi bribe me please buttons to work?

I also see where Mr. Libby has had over 150 letters written on his behalf sentencing – all of whom talk about what a great guy he is and the like, never mentioning the bit about he was convicted of lying and obstruction of Justice and the like. Funny thing that.

You know when educated folks are happily taking bribes and the powerful and well to do start a campaign to get somebody off because he’s nice to his kids – things are pretty damn awful – and doesn’t have a lot to do with gay marriage.

Got to go more tomorrow.

Peace love, John Paul George Ringo
