End of Year and a Bad Decade...

I understand that Obama is going to go to the banks and ask them to lend more.

Before he does that I think he should watch a certain scene from It’s a Wonderful Life where George Baily goes to the other bank for funds to cover his shortfall just so he gets some idea of the kind of answer he is going to get.

It’s been rather a depressing week or two –what with Lieberman acting exactly the way the people who said he was an utter swine who once the proper back was presented jam the knife in with both hands – and then the president off on what is a fool’s errand to pry money out of the bankers – who thanks to US government bail outs are still paying wonderful salaries to insanely greedy people.

Least surprising headline of week: “villagers flee volcano” Well you don’t just wait for the lava and the fire to get you do you? sheesh.

I’m getting a bit worried that the only thing health reform is going to is to flow tax dollars into health insurance companies – and of that money 25% or so will be going to pay for things like a private airplane, nice cigars and big house for the company CEO. The teabagers spend a lot of time shouting that this is socialism – this is not socialism - socialism does not use tax dollars to prop up or increase a private company’s profit margin which I see happening here unless something changes.

It’s bad enough we’re paying for mercenaries and their bosses profit margins through blackwater and now this. We’re talking Indonesia style crony capitalism here.

Spate of stuff about the decade just past – suffice to say it was a kidney stone of a time and leave it at that – or one would were not so many things that made it the stone it was were still too much with us late and soon to quote the poet.

To wit; a senseless war/occupation in Iraq, a broken government system (especially the Senate) a fawning spineless press that worships power and invitations to the right parties and a broken economic system that rewards monsters. And worst of all the same power base that managed to con enough people that having George Bush as president would be a good idea is still out there working the refs and trying to crawl back into office because can’t loot the social security system until then

And enough of that.

But it’s the new year. Happy New Year everybody – and a big thank you to my friends and family who have made my life rich with their love and friendship – and thanks to the band (you’re friends too) but I want to thank you for your awesomeness as a band as well.
And for everybody that came out to see us – thanks tons – an especially thanks to The Astoria Arts and Music folks who love us – and we love them.

2010 is our year.

I’ve been in a bit of funk for a while now but… well right now I feel very very lucky to have what I have – so thanks again.
